AIA Singapore aims to proactively support your healthcare journey. We are delighted to partner SGH and embark on the VBC journey which shares the same objectives as us - to make quality healthcare more accessible and affordable for Singaporeans and to help them live healthier, longer, better lives.
Partnering with Singapore General Hospital to Deliver Accessible, Affordable, and Quality Care
SGH started their VBC journey in 2020 with the aim to optimise clinical outcomes and costs. The programme has since expanded to over 40 conditions (including common procedures such as total knee replacement and gall bladder removal).
Benefits of Value-Based Care to Patients and the Organisation:
- Efficient Care Delivery
SGH's Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) programme enables about 25% of total knee replacements to be done as day surgeries, allowing patients to return home the same day. Home visits by nurses or therapists support recovery in a comfortable, familiar environment. - Personalised and Patient-Centered Care
The VBC programme is tailored to meet patient's needs. Clinicians will assess, on a case-by-case basis, if patients are clinically eligible for a day surgery procedure or if an admission is needed. Various factors are considered to ensure that the care plan for each patient is personalised and designed in the patient's best interest. - Improved Patient Outcomes
VBC programmes has led to shorter recovery times and faster return to mobility after surgery and reduction in rates of hospital readmissions and complications.
Conclusion
AIA's collaboration with SGH reflects our shared commitment to transforming healthcare—making it more accessible, affordable, and aligned with each patient's unique needs.

2 Percutaneous coronary intervention or PCI is a minimally invasive, non-surgical procedure used to open narrowed arteries. It involves the use of a flexible catheter with a balloon at the tip which is inflated at high pressure on the narrowed arterial wall.
